Patty, you have written something so universal and true.
Acceptance can be hard won, but it brings peace, and enables us to live in the moment, with all its struggles and failures. It also reveals the joy and beauty right there, too
This reminds me of one of the first books I read and loved by Henri Nouwen. It was about prayer and titled, With Open Hands. He wrote that we often come to prayer with clenched fists. I wrote a little poem I in response to what I'd read. I think this was it:
Thank you, dear friend, for reading and for sharing your meaningful poem. I think that unclenching our fists takes time for some of us, but that relaxing them must be part of the process of learning to trust, which in itself, can be a lifelong endeavour.
Yes, unclenching our fists takes time and is needed repeatedly! I loved "relaxing" them as part of the process. I am with you and your dear Doug in thought and prayer. May God continue to be tangibly present. Thank you so much for sharing the journey, heart to hearts.
Good tears, I hope. It’s such an important role for writers, to bear witness through the stories we weave out of experiences, observations, every day life.
Fear and love, fear and hope, fear and trust, fear and prayer, fear and courage, this has been my journey as dementia took my loved ones. Thank you for your powerful and inspirational words.
Again Patricia such a beautiful piece that again brings tears rolling down my face. Accepting life and what it throws at us and accepting that it’s seems to be God‘s will for our lives has an amazing healing power to it. It takes away a lot of anger. I continue to pray for you and Doug and all the family as you go through this journey. May God give you amazing acceptance of what you’re going through and what you will have to go through in the future. God bless and have a beautiful day. The days are getting warmer and it’s so encouraging as we look forward to summer. Perhaps summer will bring a time when you and Doug could be outside together just relaxing.

With open hands I stand before the world,
And lay my burden down for Jesus' sake,
Naked, unclothed, defenceless, it's my choice,
Because I know that he my part will take.
Love in the journey.

You are bearing witness. Thank you for showing life in all its complexity.
You’ve just made me cry. Thank you for seeing it - and saying it - that way.

Thank you, Joanne, for reading and accompanying us. Your companionship on this journey means more than words can say. <3
